What does work zone safety mean?
It means securing a road work zone for traffic: signs, barriers, delineators, cones, warning lights and guiding traffic past the work zone. The German RSA 21 guidelines describe this in detail with standard layouts.
Not to be confused with general occupational safety on site, which is a separate topic. Work zone safety under RSA 21 mainly protects traffic – and workers from traffic.
Who needs training?
Everyone who sets up, inspects or is responsible for work zones on public roads. For contracts with public clients, the ZTV-SA 97 requires a named person responsible for traffic safety whose expertise is proven according to MVAS 99.
